Close to a thousand green sea turtles lumber up the fine sandy beach of our penninsula to lay their eggs each year at this time.
Around 10 pm they begin emerging from the ocean in the deep dark night.
The small car size turtles favor the Tamarindo Beach area for some unknown reason and they return to the ocean around midnight. It is a special event to see.
We are doing our best to re educate the locals on the value of preserving these precious eggs for the future.
We welcome your assistance. |

Off the coast of Tamarindo Beach is a major breeding ground for humpback whales. These fantastic mammals play in the surf with one another with youthful energy.
The young are born in our area and they enjoy the plentiful food in the crystal clean water.
One can also see large groups of dolphins jumping waves at many different spots. |

A deal is being negotiated to provide a fishing and wildlife tour on the well know Grayline Bus company of Nicaragua. This will be offered to cruise ship clients whom dock at nearby Corinto and often lunch in Leon. The tour will consist of a private off shore fishing excursion and will expand into whale watching, turtle observation and lobster trapping. It could also be expanded to a surf day. The deep sea fishing experience is first class and has no competiton in the country to our knowledge. We expect this to be very successful. |

Another day off Tamarindo Beach brings in yet another 150 pound fish. This is world class !!! We are landing five foot dorados, sailfish and mackerals every day.
The astonishing marine life discovery journey continues every day as we learn more about this pristine area. For instance, right now hundreds of sea turtles are nesting nightly on Tamarindo Beach. They come on shore around 10 pm and the huge animals lumber up the beach.
Meanwhile, the humpback whale has a serious breeding area off shore and many small whales are jumping. Packs of dolphins are also present off shore with groups of 20 jumping waves.
Finally, the rock shelf projecting a kilometer off the island is loaded with lobster. It is a simple free dive 5-10' under to pick up your dinner. It is astonishing.
For environmental minded people, we are strictly catch and release fishers. We also are clear on the priority to protect these marine treasures. We welcome you to come and participate in this process. |

Here is today's 120 pound, 7 foot sailfish on the Nica Charters fish boat. We have been chasing many of these off the shore of Tamarindo Beach for several days. In this pursuit, we have had several 200 pound sail fish on the line. Finally, we got one.
Our policy is catch and release so this fish was set back in the Ocean. We have also been catching large mackerals, jacks, needlenose and dorados. With thousands of fish in these waters, this area is an anglers paradise.
Please come and fish with our new charter company: Nica Charters, and stay at our new lodge overlooking the surf break... these waters are absolutely untouched. |

Off the beach of the island are magnificently shaped waves rolling in all day, making spectacular boogie boarding and acceptable surfing. In four particular spots are beautiful surf waves. In our three years on the island, there has never been surfers in the water on consecutive days. The secret is out it seems. Two days ago 12 surfers were in the water. This morning 20 surfers were here. As we continue to develop roads, water sources and renovated accommodations, you can be sure more surfboards will appear.
A community is forming on the island as we speak, with fish, meat, vegetables and groceries purchased across the southern river opening in Puerto Sandino. What could be better than a surf community? We actively support this. We welcome you to contact the Oregon transplant surfer Nicolas Reid for expert knowledge on the surf waves of the north western shores of Nicaragua at http://www.surftoursnicaragua.com Nicolas is a trail blazer in his research of the surf in the Tamarindo area and offers guided tours at all skill levels. High quality beach land in front of good surf with amenites minutes away all within 1.5 hours of the USA....that is a buy. Take a look at these waves !!!!!
Stand by as we are supporting a sport fishing operation start up to operate from the same community on the island. Have you ever caught a 3 foot fish just 8 feet off the beach? Have you ever experienced boiling ocean water? The secret unfolds. |
