The length of the beachfront on the island is over 7 miles or 11 kilometers. The beach is all sand bottom and very little undertow, if any. The beach is perfect for children, families and elderly. It is extremely safe with no drop offs, rip currents or under current. The slope is gradual with all sand bottom. One mile offshore, it is only 25 feet deep. An enormous sand spit extends about a mile offshore at the south end of the island, a 3 mile beach walk away.
