Astonishing Wildlife at Tamarindo Beach Print E-mail
Thursday, 31 July 2008

Another day off Tamarindo Beach brings in yet another 150 pound fish. This is world class !!! We are landing five foot dorados, sailfish and mackerals every day.

The astonishing marine life discovery journey continues every day as we learn more about this pristine area. For instance, right now hundreds of sea turtles are nesting nightly on Tamarindo Beach. They come on shore around 10 pm and the huge animals lumber up the beach.

Meanwhile, the humpback whale has a serious breeding area off shore and many small whales are jumping. Packs of dolphins are also present off shore with groups of 20 jumping waves.

Finally, the rock shelf projecting a kilometer off the island is loaded with lobster. It is a simple free dive 5-10' under to pick up your dinner. It is astonishing.

For environmental minded people, we are strictly catch and release fishers. We also are clear on the priority to protect these marine treasures. We welcome you to come and participate in this process.

Isla Secret Surfing Being "Discovered" Print E-mail
Thursday, 08 May 2008

Off the beach of the island are magnificently shaped waves rolling in all day, making spectacular boogie boarding and acceptable surfing. In four particular spots are beautiful surf waves. In our three years on the island, there has never been surfers in the water on consecutive days. The secret is out it seems. Two days ago 12 surfers were in the water.  This morning 20 surfers were here. As we continue to develop roads, water sources and renovated accommodations, you can be sure more surfboards will appear.

A community is forming on the island as we speak, with fish, meat, vegetables and groceries purchased across the southern river opening in Puerto Sandino.  What could be better than a surf community? We actively support this. We welcome you to contact the Oregon transplant surfer Nicolas Reid for expert knowledge on the surf waves of the north western shores of Nicaragua at http://www.surftoursnicaragua.com  Nicolas is a trail blazer in his research of the surf in the Tamarindo area and offers guided tours at all skill levels. High quality beach land in front of good surf with amenites minutes away all within 1.5 hours of the USA....that is a buy. Take a look at these waves !!!!!

Stand by as we are supporting a sport fishing operation start up to operate from the same community on the island. Have you ever caught a 3 foot fish just 8 feet off the beach? Have you ever experienced boiling ocean water? The secret unfolds.

Attorney General Releases Island Title Report Print E-mail
Friday, 18 April 2008

The highest legal authority in Nicaragua released its report on the title situation on the whole Isla Real Las Penas last week. This written report has been in process for over 7 months and is a careful review of all the land titles on the island which is over 40 titles. The proper ownership was determined and the borders re surveyed with markers constructed. Tamarindo Beach is re confirmed to be exactly as it has always been with proper title. However, there has been some clarifications on other parts of the island to the north. This bodes well for more parcels to be insured on the island and future development of the land. With over 100 foreigners owning land on the island at present, this step was neccessary to clarify the land registration for the state government.

Wave Runner Adventure in Tamarindo River Print E-mail
Friday, 18 April 2008

On the weekend, several wave runners were in action in the Tamarindo River system behind the island. This area is possibly the best terrain in Nicaragua for such adventure with over 14 miles of untouched rivers to explore and see wildlife. The river system is uninhabited and is home to 5 foot iguanas and multitudes of fish. As we adventure further into the river system, we are understanding just how great the fishing is in this area. The beauty of this island area is that there are so many outdoor pursuits to be done in its natural state. It is not required to build a $15 million dollar golf course. This area is an aquatic paradise. After wave running around the river system, we spent some time jumping surf on the Pacific Ocean beach front, followed up by a swim. This weekend confirms our belief that this area is an upcoming aquatic paradise.

El Nuevo Diario newspaper reported last week that the US financed Millennium Challenge Account will expand to four lanes a stretch of the old highway from Leon to Managua. The design will provide pedestrian/bicycle sidewalks, construction of a footbridge at the junction of Nejapa and 12 bus bays on both sides of the road as the road approaches Managua. Construction will start at the end closest to our island in the next few weeks and be complete by the end of 2008. The section to Puerto Sandino will also be paved at this time.
